The deck of my sunfish has become scratched due to the tiller touching the surface as it is use. I have raised the tiller but cannot hide the scratches with gel coat. Is there some kind of cover that I can adhere to the deck over the curved tiller path to eliminate further markings and cover the...
I purchased a '92 fish last year. It did not have a hiking strap so I purchased one to install. The boat has a bracket on the fore end of the cabin, nothing at the rear near the cubby. Does this boat have a backing plate that ive seen mentioned behind the fore bracket?? How is this strap...
Ive had a sunfish since last fall and usually positioned the board curved end forward. Ive since seen many pictures and drawings, some showing it each way. Im wondering which is correct. It seems the board would pop up easier if running aground with the long end aft, curved end forward. Which is...
We bought a Sunfish last year and had it out many times without incident. This weekend, the rudder came off twice shortly after launching. I always make sure it is locked in well. I dont know how this happens as you need to push up on the pin which is spring loaded in order to unlock it. I...
Thats the way we have been doing it, across from each other, one slightly aft, one forward in the pit.
Tried this weekend with one near bow around the mast. I then have to sit in the middle and I find this more difficult to handle the tiller. Not sure how else to do it but would like to hear...
How do you dump the boat over safely?? Two people on one side leaning?? or in strong wind making a certain manuver?? Do you right the boat by pulling on one side, standing on dagger board??
Dan, thanks for the info. I did find the "learn to sail in 3 days" article and it has a picture of this in shallow water. I cannot seem to find the library downloads on the Sunfish Sailor site that you mentioned....Id like to read about this. Where are they located within the site?
We are new owners of a sunfish and Ive read that it is a good idea to practice righting the boat in case of tipping by intentionally capsizing the boat. How is it best to go about doing this?? I imagine strong winds and a certain manuver??
Is it necessary to register a sunfish and have the numbers on both sides of the boat?? I dont think Ive ever seen this on a sunfish. I live in Pa. Or is this only needed to use the boat in state park lakes?
I bought a used sunfish in the fall last year and we used it quite a few times. Ive been looking at diagrams and was wondering about the bridle at the stern of the boat. Is this suppose to attach to the tiller somehow? I just put the tiller under it (as I recall ). How is this bridle used?
